A lot of times, the subject of good deeds and being a good Christian comes to most Christian minds. What are good deeds? What sorts of things can or do we do in our daily lives that constitute for a good loving Christian? Is there a standard? How far are we willing to go to show that we are truly loving people and followers of Christ? Do we need to show anyone at all? Or must we be a living example?
I just wanted to share this story and my thoughts about this wonderful man and how he has done such a beautiful positive thing for a family in need. Please check out this video of a man who gave up his home for a family he never met.
Mathew 5:15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Think about it. He gave up his entire home for a grateful family of 5 who was homeless (mother Dukes and her 4 children). He doesn’t appear to have been afraid to do something like this. You can even tell through the tears in his eyes that it was truly a loving gesture.
Would you say that this man’s deeds reflect something that Jesus himself would do? How many of you would be able to do something like this? To be honest, I know I myself would have trouble, especially if I didn’t know the family moving in. Look how easily he gave up his place. And not only that, but he offered his home rent free for a full year!
Many people would initially think, ‘How could you let complete strangers into your home?’ or ‘Is he crazy?’ As his mother said, “Have you lost your mind?”. Most would rather charge rent. I can only say that this gesture must’ve came directly from the heart. It seems only a man like this was raised in a truly, loving Christian home with none other than the presence of Jesus Christ. I cannot fathom any other explanation. Besides his father’s positive generous influences of his own and always having an extra bed while growing up for those in need, what would drive someone to do such a wonderful thing for a complete stranger?
As you have seen in the video, there is a scene where the family prays over their food “Thank you for the love that we share. Amen”. I pray that Tony Talbert’s family and himself are blessed. He is a true example of the loving kindness of our Lord. This story is amazing… Imagine how beautiful our world would be if more people were altruistic in their nature like this wonderful man.
John 4:7-8 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
